  • Cat Whisperers Do Exist
A cat whisper is somewhat similar to a dog or horse whisperer, although cat whisperers relate quite well with cats.
  • Dangerous House Plants
Although we think of cats as carnivores, in fact many are fond of vegetables and other plant material. Although food preferences vary with individual cats, many will sample a plot of grass outdoors, the leaves of a potted houseplant indoors, or other common items like shoelaces.
  • Garden Etiquette
Have you ever gone to one of those garden shows and been so completely intimidated that you were afraid to move? You know, where every hosta leaf looks like it has been polished, and every flower is perfect, and the ground has been raked like a Japanese sand garden.
  • Feral Cows
I have a friend that's quite the story teller, he related this story to me several years ago, I took it as fiction until the other day when, at the fourth of July party, he produced pictures of his adventures with "feral cows".
  • Conserver Forever
Some of the measures I've taken to save money, improve my health or saving/making use of what I have, have all been effective, they've all have had the desired results, yet, I still get those incredulous looks - even from the people that know me best.
  • Homeschooling
I'm homeschooling and that's final. My whole family is against it, my wifes family is against it; except her aunt, she homeschooled all of her kids and told us to get ready for a battle of attrition, you'll either wear them down or they'll wear you down (everyone else not the kids).
  • Killed the Widowmaker
This is probably the closest I've come to having my life flash before my eyes, and while this was happening to me, I remember thinking, this is going to save me soooo much money.
  • The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend (The outdoor cat)
My newest neighbor, whom, I've never met up close, has been doing me favors for close to 3yrs. now and I haven't had the chance to thank him/her yet, which makes me feel... guilty?
  • When they want more, I say no.
In our quest to free ourselves of debt, the closer we come to reaching our goal, everyone seems to want more and they want it right now; in our fast paced world it feels like the billing cycle has sped up the most.
  • Coveting Thy Brother-in-laws Tractor
Is there any sweeter sight or sound than seeing the green and yellow of a John Deere and then hearing it roar to life at 4:00 in the morning? Friends say I'm "so weird" and I've conceded that point a long time ago, but, I still want that tractor.
  • Gardening Adventures
In our first try at gardening we were naive enough to think "plant it and it will grow", well, that bubble was burst rather quickly.
  • Homesteading - Live the Life or Pay the Price
I've been told that you can get out of the rat race (become a homesteader) or be a city dweller; the only difference is you'll either be trading your time working to be more self sufficient (self employed, gardening, getting wood in for the winter, etc.) or trade time away from home, at work, to pay for the conveniences and bills (Overtime). The person who told me this didn't see the difference in the quality of life; to this person, you exist here or you exist there, the price you pay is the same, it was all a wash in the end - and they call me the boring one.
  • Keeping the Naysayers at Bay
Who would have thought that there would be so much opposition to living a simpler more self sufficient lifestyle. Do you ever get the feeling that the people that tell you what you're all about, actually do believe what they're saying?
