Free Public Death Records Online

By: Jed Elaine

Death Records is one of the earliest public records and is also one of the public vital records along with Birth, Marriage and Divorce. They are provided free of charge to the community as a public service. Restriction governing the access and use of public death records vary from one state to another but they are ultimately public records and are retrievable by anyone as long as it's done within the confines of its rules and regulations.

The most reliable and straightforward source of free public death records is the government agencies. They are provided as a public service and we can be sure there are no underlying schemes and agendas which are common with other free sources. Some of the other free private sources are okay but most smack of disguised lures and enticement. Worse still, many are infested with viruses or even identity thieves.

The government death records are without doubt reliable and safe to use but the problem is they tend to fall short in terms of packaging and presentation. As such, it could be quite challenging to put together a user-friendly death record report from them especially if you are compiling from different government departments or offices. If time and bandwidth is of essence, it is generally advisable to turn to commercial record providers.

Public death records can provide a lot of information. At a basic level, they contain the personal particulars of the deceased and some degree of his family members'. The age, time, date, place, funeral and burial information are also listed. If there's an obituary, it would likely be published also. The Death Certificate, records from other categories like Birth and Marriage may also be included. Aside from private and individual purposes, public death records are also widely used in Genealogy, Family Tree and other historical studies.

Free public death records are easy to obtain if you look in the right places. It's even more convenient nowadays with the internet. All that's needed is a computer with internet access. Of course, you also need some input information of the deceased and the time on your hands to carry out the search.
